‘Tis the season for turkey, eggnog, mistletoe … and holiday guests. While many homeowners will deck the halls with festive decorations or make minor home repairs, most will concentrate on traditional areas such as dining rooms, family rooms and living rooms. However, they often overlook the one room where holiday guests frequent most — the powder room.

“The powder room is one of the most frequented and least appreciated rooms in our homes when it comes to decorating,” says Leslie Segrete, designer from popular home improvement shows, Trading Spaces and While You Were Out. “And because the size of the powder room is typically smaller than other rooms in your home, it gives you the opportunity to be more creative with your décor choices — allowing you to tap into the warmth of family traditions and nostalgia of the holiday season.”

Organize and Accessorize
One of the quickest, easiest and inexpensive ways to update your bathroom’s style is by replacing or adding bath accessories. For a rather small investment, you can add a complete set of new accessories — including towel bars, towel rings, shelves, paper holders and robe hooks. Plus, accessories can add a bit of organization, while pulling the design of the room together.

“Many people will add fragrant soaps and candles, or new towels and linens in their bath at the holidays,” adds Segrete. “Why not complete the look by updating the bath accessories, as well? A decorative glass shelf can be the perfect area to display candles and a beautifully designed towel bar will make your linens stand out.”

In the past, chrome or polished brass were the only finish choices in the bath accessory marketplace. Fortunately, the industry has changed dramatically, and manufacturers now offer dozens of finish and style options.

While chrome is still the most popular bath accessory finish, emerging finishes, such as oil-rubbed bronze, antique bronze, brushed nickel, brushed bronze and wrought iron are also increasing in popularity with consumers.

With this in mind, Inspirations by Moen recently introduced three new bath accessory collections, Rockland, Addington and Ridgedale, designed to reflect the styles used in today’s baths. Available at Lowe’s nationwide, each collection features beautiful detailing and a variety of product options, including, towel bars, towel rings, double robe hooks and the popular, innovative pivoting paper holders.

In addition to the elegant styling, each collection can be installed in a matter of minutes — which is important during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Thanks to Inspirations by Moen’s new EZ 2 Install Mounting System, installation is a snap — literally. A mounting bracket attaches to the wall with just two screws. Then, the base, or post of the accessory, slides onto the bracket and an audible “click” signals it is securely locked into place. Most importantly, it eliminates the need for a set screw, the number one complaint from consumers who have installed their own accessories.

You (and Your Mirror) Look Marvelous
Everyone wants to look their best for the holiday season, which means frequent primping and nose powdering in front of your mirror. So why shouldn’t your mirror look as good? If you are tired of your plain, plate-glass mirror you now have an easy solution designed to provide the look of a custom-made frame — Mirrorscapes Mirror Frames.

With Mirrorscapes, anyone can quickly and easily turn their plate-glass mirror from an ordinary amenity into an extraordinary focal point. With styles ranging from classic to casual, the frames come in a wide variety of metallic and wood finishes designed to coordinate with faucets, bath accessories, lighting, or cabinetry and trim. A paintable version is also available for your own custom look. The best part is no angled miter cuts are required.

“The system is nearly error-proof,” says Segrete. “Template pieces ensure perfect alignment, while the decorative corner frame pieces cover straight-end frame pieces — to conceal most cutting errors.”

As for final words of advice, Segrete adds, “The powder room isn’t the first on the list when we think of entertaining, but it can leave a lasting impression with guests. Remember to continue your holiday spruce-ups into the bath and you’ll be surprised at the compliments you receive.”
