Excellent closet kit. We ordered two 4-8′ deluxe custom kits. My husband and I each have an 8′ closet. Kits were very easy to install. By the time we got to the second closet we were pretty fast. Took about 1 hour to install the second closet system. The closet design is great in that there is no cutting with the exception of the last rail cover. Love that the hangers slide easily, our previous closet “system” only allowed a couple of inches either way. The flexibility of the closet is amazing. We also ordered for my husband the shoe shelves, tie and belt organizer, and two sliding pants racks. For me I ordered three sets of shoe rods, two pants racks, and one sliding basket. We also ordered 3 upright extension rods for each closet due to the number of accessories we ordered. I had so much fun playing around with the expandable hanging rods, the shelves, and all the accessories. I now have my closet organized and I cannot believe how much room I have for everything. I even have “room to grow”. I highly recommend this closet system.
Be a Savvy Senior — Tips To Stay Healthy All Winter Long
January 16th, 2008
‘Tis the season for coughs, colds and the flu. Staying healthy can be tough for anyone, especially seniors who can be more vulnerable to getting sick.
Bionaire BWM0400-U Large Room Warm Mist Humidifier w/ Galileo Wireless Climate CenterList Price: $99.99
Buy New: $69.95
You Save: $30.04 (30%)
Quieter than a cool mist humidifier, this warm mist one emits a steam that’s extremely clean because it’s actually distilled water. Perfect for cooler climates, the warm steam helps keep you healthier - it keeps mucous membranes moist and allows the tiny hairs in the nose to expel any suspended, foreign air particles. With a humidifier, dry, itchy skin is less of an issue, and when it comes to protecting your nicer pieces of furniture like leather, it helps prevent cracking and splitting. This model provides a comforting mist for areas up to 650-sq. feet, comes with three speeds and has an automatic shutoff for added safety. The water tray is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. And for easier viewing at night or in darker areas, there’s a back-lit, digital display.
In one year’s time, the National Center for Health Statistics reported that seniors age 65 years and older visit their doctor roughly 234 million times! For those seniors with breathing sensitivities, the air they breathe is also a factor. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), air within homes can be more seriously polluted than outdoor air. Other research also indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors, thus increasing health risks due to added exposure of indoor air pollutants. Be a savvy senior this winter by using the following tips to help you feel your best.
Stop the Spread of Airborne Germs
According to Dr. Kelly Reynolds, a microbiologist at The University of Arizona, “Reducing the spread of germs in the air this time of year is a good idea, especially during the winter months when people spend more times indoors and the chances for catching a cold or flu bug increase.”
The Germ Guardian UV-C room air sanitizer is an effective way to help eliminate contagious germs from the air. According to studies at the Harvard School of Public Health, it kills 99.9 percent of targeted airborne germs that can cause cold and flu, pneumonia, tuberculosis, staph infections and more.
It harnesses the power of naturally occurring UV-C light technology, the same technology hospitals use to sanitize surfaces and the air; making it a better way to kill germs without having to use harmful chemicals. It also can reduce odors and allergens in your home.
Available at Lowe’s, this portable unit is stainless steel, lightweight and perfect for any room in your home. Simply plug it in and let it run. The only maintenance required is to replace the special UV-C bulb once a year.
Safety Comes First
During the winter months not only do we need to protect ourselves from the elements outside, but also take precautions to make sure we’re safe indoors:
* Make sure your smoke alarms are working properly and new batteries are installed. More fires occur during the winter months than any other time of year.
* Have a trained professional inspect and clean your central heating system (furnaces, flues and chimneys) and make any necessary repairs.
* Install a carbon monoxide (CO2) alarm. Since it is impossible to see, taste or smell the toxic fumes, CO2 can be fatal.
Breathe Easy with Cleaner Air
When people spend more time indoors with the windows closed it allows viruses and bacteria to build-up, as well as allergens and mold spores, according to Neil Schachter M.D. author of Good Doctor’s Guide to Colds and Flu (Collins). If keeping windows open during the winter months isn’t an option, consider keeping the air cleaner with an air purifier.
* Germ Guardian’s new Table Top air purifier is a complete air cleansing system that captures allergens, kills germs and destroys mold spores and odors. It’s compact and perfect to keep on the nightstand or even at the office and is available at Lowe’s for less than $70.
* Indoor humidity can be extremely low in the winter, which can dry out your skin and mucous membranes, making you more susceptible to getting sick. A humidifier is a great way to add extra humidity to the air. Older humidifiers can grow slimy mold and bacteria in the water tank and send it out into the room. Germ Guardian has a new ultrasonic table top humidifier that is germ-free thanks to nano-silver technology. Small nano-silver particles have been embedded into the water tank to help fight the growth of microbes such as viruses, bacteria and fungi. Silver is known to kill over 650 species of bacteria simply by coming into contact with them. The Germ Guardian Table Top humidifier water tank is free of contaminants so clean, fresh water vapor is sent into the room. It also uses ultrasonic technology for quiet operation while you sleep.

“You need to pay extra attention to your hair in the winter even more than other times of the year,” says Brian Magallones, celebrity stylist for Garnier Fructis. “The dry air and harsh weather can strip strands of moisture leaving them dull and straw-like.”
Magallones shares the following tips for keeping hair fabulous and healthy all winter long.
*Schedule a trim every six to eight weeks. Snipping away brittle and split ends is an instant hair makeover.
* Shampoo every other day with a moisture-rich product and condition your hair every time you shampoo. “Preferably, use a conditioner that contains strengthening vitamins like Garnier Fructis Moisture Works,” says Magallones. “This will protect hair from damage caused by hot styling tools — hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons — used often this season for special occasions like holiday parties.”
* Be sure to use the lowest heat setting on the hair dryer and take warm, not hot, showers to avoid over drying hair. Do still dry your hair, though. Going outside with a wet head can cause hair to freeze and break.
* Cold temperatures and warm hats can cause flyaways. A shot of a static-preventing spray or a light sweep with a fabric softener sheet can stop static from making your hair stand on end.
* If you’re wearing a hat, fix hair by adding texturizing paste or freshening spray to restyle and shape hair.
* Use a room humidifier to add moisture to the air and drink lots of water. Being hydrated on the inside can make your hair and skin look hydrated on the outside.
* Get highlights. Winter hair is exposed to less sun and can be darker and duller than in summer. They also brighten up any complexion.
Healthy winter hair may take a bit of extra work, but with a little added moisture and vitamin fortified shampoos and conditioners you can turn nasty, weak and dry strands into strong and beautiful locks that will shine all winter long.

Got Six Cats? Stop Popping Sudafed.
I just want to let it be known that I’ve had my Hamilton Beach TrueAir Allergen Reducer for all of a week… But there’s been so much of a difference that I couldn’t wait any longer to write this review.
I’ve never had any hardcore allergies to cats or dogs, and I love pets. When I married my wife, I became Dad to her six cats. Long hair, shorthair, hair everywhere. And a few months ago, I began noticing that waking up in the morning was getting increasingly unpleasant. As of last month (and I’ll try not to be overly graphic) I was waking up without fail each day with what felt like a concrete mixer behind my eyes. Congested every morning, and having to take extra-long, piping hot showers to feel any better… usually followed by at 500 mg of Tylenol and an additional allergy medicine.
So I saw this Allergen Reducer for a 210 square foot room online and decided the price was right to give it a shot (replacement filters are less than $15 each, which was also an acceptible cost). Our bedroom is about that size exactly, and since we usually have at least three cats in bed with us at any given time during the night, it seemed worthy of the investment.
After four days of having this machine on in our room (with the one door usually open only enough for the cats to enter and exit), I’m happy to report that each day I have (waked? woken? waken?) to a 99% improvement. I’ll certainly come back to this review in future months to update, but there has been such an enormous difference within a very short time that I wanted to tell others who might be currently experiencing what I have in the past that this device might provide much welcomed relief, and quickly!
Consider these facts:
* The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental public health risks.
* EPA studies show that indoor air can be four to five times more polluted than outdoor air.
Now is the time to take proactive steps to improve air quality inside the home for greater health, safety, environmental and energy-saving benefits.
Clean living
One option is to live in an American Lung Association Health House. Developed in conjunction with builders and homeowners to focus on home design, construction, renovation and operation, the program aims to create healthy indoor air quality.
Typical components of a Health House include:
* Foundation waterproofing and moisture control
* Advanced framing techniques
* Air sealing and advanced insulation techniques
* Energy efficient, high performance windows
* Energy efficient and sealed combustion appliances
* High efficiency air filtration
* Whole house ventilation
* Humidity control
* Carefully selected interior finishes
Whether you live in a Health House, or another house where you’d like to improve indoor air quality, consider making improvements to help promote clean living.
For example, consider how much dust collects on curtains or blinds. It’s a fact that windows with blinds or shades protected between panes of glass are healthier options than traditional room-side treatments. Researchers at the University of Iowa found Pella Designer Series windows can significantly reduce certain indoor airborne allergens. Testing found windows with room-side blinds collected 200 times more of certain indoor airborne allergens than Designer Series products.
In addition to staying cleaner, Designer Series windows and patio doors with triple-pane glass are No. 1 for energy efficiency among top national brands according to Superior NFRC U-values and SHGC ratings.
Plus they reduce noise up to 80 percent (Computer simulation compared to single-pane wood windows. Actual results may vary). And because Designer Series products feature no potentially hazardous room-side cords, the cordless system is a safer choice for homes with children and pets.
Here are some other hints to follow for a healthier home:
* Have a professional inspect, clean and tune up the central heating and cooling system before the start of each season for optimal energy performance and to reduce exposure to indoor air toxins that can irritate eyes, nose and throat.
* Use dehumidifiers to dry out wet or moist walls, typically in basements — maintain humidity at 25 to 40 percent to help maintain furnishings and reduce condensation.
* When you’re building a new home or renovating one, choose “exterior grade” pressed wood products (hardwood plywood wall paneling, particleboard, fiberboard or furniture made with pressed wood) because they help reduce pollutants.
* Buy carpet or carpet pads with little or no formaldehyde content.
Safe habits
Health and safety are closely linked. Safe living begins at home.
Practicing fire prevention is a fundamental first step for the safety of your loved ones. According to the National Fire Protection Association, in 2006, nearly 3,700 fire fatalities were reported in the U.S., with 80 percent of those fire deaths in homes. Yet less than 25 percent of U.S. families have practiced a plan for exiting the home safely in case of a fire.
“Reduce potential fire hazards in your home often, and at least twice a year, plan and practice a home fire safety escape route that can help you protect what’s most important — your loved ones,” says Kathy Krafka Harkema, Pella fire safety educator.
Begin the home fire safety drill by drawing a floor plan of each level of your home. Next, designate two exits from every room in your home — a door and a window. Make sure doors and windows open quickly and easily to help ensure a quick exit; if not, consider replacing them for safety’s sake. When replacing windows and doors, look for the ENERGY STAR designating the most energy-efficient options for your home.
In the event of a fire, train your family to gather in a designated meeting place safely outside your home. More home fire safety tips from Pella’s “Close the door on fire!” campaign are available at http://www.pella.com/about/fire.asp.

The secret to your success may lie in some new advice from Office Depot, which recognizes that each person has an individual work style and getting organized means putting that style to work for you. Playing to your strengths can help you get organized once and for all.
“Once you’ve identified your work style, then you can put into practice a few clear-cut systems to achieve your goals. Best of all, the impact is immediate. As the condition of your office space improves, you will also be more in control,” says expert organizer and Office Depot advisor Monica Ricci.
Identify Your Work Style:
The Go-Getter – You’re the quintessential multi-tasker with a million projects in the air, but you don’t pay close attention to all the little details. You need help streamlining the administrative aspects of your job so important details and documents don’t fall through the cracks.
For starters, stop taking notes on loose pieces of paper, and start using a three-ring notebook to keep all important meeting notes and phone messages together. Use an affordable, leather-bound notebook that you can pick up at any Office Depot, such as the Three-Ring Binder from Foray – it looks good and the ability to move pages around and add to it helps to keep you organized. Also, invest in back-up media to ensure you don’t accidentally dispose of important data. You can be particularly at risk if you travel a lot or work from a home office that lacks robust technology. At a minimum, back-up material on a flash drive, like the Ativa 8GB Flash Drive, which can hold the equivalent of 320,000 sheets of paper.
The Planner – You have all the answers when it comes to possible contingencies and are on top of big and small details. You are probably the most organized of all the work styles, but there still are some areas you’d like to improve.
For instance, you probably rarely make time to store or dispose of inactive files and you keep information longer than necessary, “just in case.” Change this by designating half an hour each week for filing – put it on your calendar and plan for it, like you do everything else. Make use of color-coded files, and remember to simplify the process by using general words as tab headers. Consider using the new secure folders from Office Depot that keep documents contained and prevents papers from falling out. If a file is out of date or unnecessary, eliminate it, but be mindful of confidentiality. Ricci recommends using a shredder like an Ativa diamond-cut shredder because it shreds documents, CDs and credit cards into tiny, unusable pieces.
The Procrastinator – If delayed decision making is your style, you are probably driving colleagues and family members crazy. You probably don’t get around to going through the piles and your office may look like a warehouse of outdated reports and articles. You will need to make the biggest commitment to change, starting by inventing new systems to keep you organized.
Start with your calendar and make sure to use one like the Mead Monthly/Weekly Appointment Book that allows you to keep track of monthly and weekly schedules in one place, giving you a big-picture and detailed view of your work so you stick to your project schedule. Also consider cleaning the clutter. You can begin by investing in Fashion Designer Totes from Office Depot for storing infrequently used documents. They come with a unique re-writable surface that is great for labeling what is in the box and organizing the contents.
The Perfectionist – You are most comfortable doing everything yourself, and even though your work product is superb, this approach has its consequences. Because you take on so much, you can sometimes fall behind schedule and may have trouble delegating to others.
One time-saving strategy is to find the experts and delegate to them. For instance, stop wasting time on photocopying and binding all your presentations in-house. Send these tasks to Office Depot’s Design Print & Ship Depot. They can turn your projects around both quickly and cost effectively.
Ensure that all projects are on-schedule and the team is aware of deadlines by plotting out projects and responsibilities on a wall calendar like the Mead Undated Erasable Wall Calendar. Keep this in your office or a common room where you have staff meetings and encourage the team to update their projects and report on progress on the board, keeping everyone involved and engaged in plans.
Use a Robot Vacuum Cleaner and Save Your Back
October 5th, 2007
For those of us with bad backs and stiff joints, any type of household task can be a challenge. Plus, performing such tasks can leave us sore and aching for quite some time afterwards. Why not purchase a robot vacuum cleaner to do some of the work for you and save your back?
Robot vacuum cleaners are incredible machines that not only suck up the dirt, but also, they do it all on their own. Robot vacuum cleaners are equipped with special path finding software that not only allows the robot vacuum cleaner to navigate a single room, but also, it allows them to navigate an entire house.
iRobot 530 Roomba Vacuuming RobotBuy New: Too low to display
Features:
• Vacuuming robot picks up dirt and debris with the touch of a button
• Easy-to-empty bagless dustbin; fine-filtration system traps allergens
• Anti-tangle technology; gentle-touch bumper system; built-in cliff sensors
• Self-charging Home Base, 2 Virtual Walls, an extra filter, and more included
• Measures 16-3/4 by 21 by 5 inches; 1-year limited warranty
No more bumbling about in the dark and getting stuck in corners or in between pieces of furniture, the robot vacuum cleaners of today are clever little monsters that know how to get around with an air of efficiency and independence. All you need to do is program the little machines with the information that they need, the specifics about your floor plan and its contents, and off they go to perform a nearly perfect job of vacuuming your home.
You can program them to begin at a specific time of day or night and to stop at a specific time as well. In fact, you can program them to vacuum the entire home or only the specific rooms that need vacuuming. You dont even need to be at home when the robot vacuum cleaner is operating.
If you dont want to bother with programming a robot vacuum cleaner with all of the fine details about your floor plan, you can purchase a simple model that navigates each room on its own. It might get stuck here and there for a second or two before it redirects itself, but nonetheless, it will do an efficient job of vacuuming the dirt and dust from your home. This type of robot vacuum cleaner simply follows the contours of the room, navigating along the walls and the lengths of the furniture.
Best of all, these robot vacuum cleaners are smaller than ever before so they are easy to store and easy to transport. In fact, they are so lightweight that you can even take them to your vacation home for the week, easily transport them from one level of your home to another, or to your parents home for a weekend. Most robot vacuum cleaners weigh in at just under six pounds.
Plus, they have been designed to have an attractive appearance so that you dont feel the need to hide them away every time that you have a visitor. Prices vary depending upon the skills of the vacuum and the manufacturer as well.
Patrick Cash is not a robot vacuum but he really likes them enough to write cool things about them. If you are looking for more information on Robot Vacuums please visit our site for more informative articles. http://www.robotvacuumreviews.com

How to Choose the Best Vacuum Cleaner
October 5th, 2007
How to find the best vacuum cleaner for your needs when there are so many choices? Deciding for the best model can be quite a difficult task unless you know what to look for and what are the best features of todays vacuum cleaners.
The most popular vacuum cleaners these days are canister and upright models. The built-in or central and the robotic vacuum cleaners are getting their share of the market too. The back-pack cleaners are used mostly for commercial purposes and we also need to mention the smaller handheld and wet or wet/dry cleaners.
iRobot 560 Roomba Vacuuming RobotList Price: $449.99
Buy New: $339.99
You Save: $110.00 (24%)
Features:
• Vacuuming robot picks up dirt and debris with the touch of a button
• Easy-to-empty bagless dustbin; fine-filtration system traps allergens
• Anti-tangle technology; gentle-touch bumper system; built-in cliff sensors
• Self-charging Home Base, 2 Virtual Wall Lighthouses, an extra filter, and more included
• Measures 16-3/4 by 21 by 5 inches; 1-year limited warranty
So if you are trying to choose the best vacuum cleaner among them, you need to keep a few things in mind.
1. Budget: With good research you can find almost every type of vacuum for an affordable price.
2. Brand: Look out for brands that are trustworthy and reliable. After sales services is one of the best ways of judging which brand is a good long term choice.
3. Usage: How and where you plan to use your vacuum cleaner helps you decide what kind is best for you. If you have a large carpeted area you may want to go for an upright vacuum cleaner and if you have a hard surface flooring and stairs to clean then a canister may be a better choice.
4. Ask people you know: Consult your friends before buying a vacuum cleaner. You’ll get great tips and advice on what to look for and what to avoid when choosing a new vacuum cleaner.
5. Conduct a survey: Try and take vacuums for a “test drive” if you can. Many stores offer this option and you can check the weight and versatility of each model. Youll find ratings and comparisons online too where you can check the prices and availability of specific models.
Lets go into more detail now…
The upright vacuum cleaners are the most widely used ones these days but they dont have a remarkable suction power. The canister or cylinder design cleaners can suck better, and due to the build of their power heads, they can easily get into the corners.
The built-in or the central cleaners are the newest models available today. These vacuum cleaners have the best cleaning capability, and can locate the suction motor and the bag in such a way that they produce a lesser amount of noise while cleaning.
The 25 feet long hose allows you to move freely without changing the inlets since they are set up throughout the house. The collection unit for all the dust and debris is so big that you really dont have to worry about emptying it for many months. This could actually be the best vacuum cleaner choice if you have a large house.
The handheld vacuum cleaners are quite handy and convenient, but they rank far lower in capability if you compare them with the larger models.
The new robotic cleaners can clean automatically if you program them to do so. They use sweepers for the usual cleaning work.
Wet vacs are a particular type of canister vacuums used for cleaning up spilt fluid. These cleaners can hold wet and dry debris at the same time, and you can even fix an exhaust port on them to reverse the flow of air. These are basically canister vacuums that can be carried on the back.
You can get vacuum cleaners in a number of different colors and models and they need only a nominal maintenance for working efficiently. One of the most popular models available today is Dyson. It has an exclusive collection system and with its HEPA filtration system it is actually a sure candidate for the best vacuum cleaner in your home.
Before choosing the best vacuum for your needs consider a few factors first:
- what kind of surfaces you need to clean
- get a HEPA filtration model if you are prone to allergies
- what attachments you might need in your home or office
- if choose a vacuum with replaceable bags - where will you get them and how much do they cost
- weight and handling of each model
Also make sure that you check how much noise your potential vacuum cleaner makes. The more current models have an installation around the motor so as to minimize the noise that it can make while cleaning.
Also pay attention to other miscellaneous factors like the length of the cord, upholstery brushes and other attachments, the head lights, the power of the motor etc.
Take your time and check dependable vacuum cleaner ratings. Always check out the warranty or the service strategy of the company whatever the brand or model of your chosen vacuum cleaner.
If you take the time to research well either online or directly in stores by trying different models, you will undoubtedly increase the chances of finding the best vacuum cleaner with the least amount of stress and investment on your part.
